Introduction
MAH-CET is a state-level exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra. It is highly competitive because it serves as the ultimate gateway to top Maharashtra colleges, specifically JBIMS (Jamnalal Bajaj), Sydenham (SIMSREE), and PUMBA, which offer premium management education at exceptionally low fees.
Exam Pattern
MAH-CET is completely free of negative marking and is heavily dominated by logical, visual, and non-verbal reasoning questions.
- Total Questions: 200 MCQs
- Duration: 150 minutes (2.5 hours)
- Sectional Time Limits: No
- Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answers; Zero negative marking.
- Sectional Breakup:
- Logical Reasoning: 75 questions
- Abstract Reasoning: 25 questions
- Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions
- Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension: 50 questions
Syllabus
- Logical Reasoning: Complex puzzles, Matrix Arrangements, Floor/Day/Box puzzles, Linear/Circular sitting setups, Inequalities, Input-Output structures, Coding-Decoding.
- Abstract Reasoning: Series of figures, Mirror and Water images, Paper folding patterns, Analogy based on geometric shapes.
- Quantitative Aptitude: Basic Arithmetic, Speed-Time-Distance, Numbers, Probability, Data Interpretation sets (heavy on speed calculation).
- Verbal Ability: Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension passages, Spelling corrections, Synonyms, Para-jumbles, Cloze tests.
Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Qualification: 3-year Bachelor’s degree recognized by UGC or Association of Indian Universities.
- Minimum Marks: Minimum 50% marks in aggregate (45% for backward class categories and PwD belonging to Maharashtra State only).
- Seat Quota Rule: Candidates from outside Maharashtra (OMS category) are fully eligible to apply but compete for a specific 15% All India seats quota via their MAH-CET, CAT, or CMAT scores.
Selection Process
- Score Normalisation: The exam is held in multiple slots, and raw scores are transformed into a normalized percentile.
- Centralised Admission Process (CAP): Unlike other tests, there are no Group Discussions or Personal Interviews.
- Merit Merit List: Admission happens purely through an online centralized allotment counseling platform (CAP rounds). Candidates lock in their college preferences, and seats are allocated strictly based on merit ranks.
How to Apply
- Go to the State CET Cell website (cetcell.mahacet.org).
- Click on the “MAH-MBA/MMS-CET” portal link.
- Click “New Registration” and fill out basic details to generate an application ID.
- Input reservation details (Maharashtra State Home University vs All India Category status).
- Upload photo and signature to match online dimensions.
- Pay the processing fee (approx. ₹1,000 for Open Category/All India candidates; ₹800 for Maharashtra reserved categories) via the payment gateway.
MAH-CET Target Colleges
MAH-CET scores are valid strictly for universities and management colleges located inside the state of Maharashtra.
