SCI Extends Mandatory Third-Party Insurance Cover for New Cars and Bikes by One Year
Supreme Court of India (SCI), through a Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, extended the mandatory third-party insurance period for newly purchased vehicles by one year to strengthen compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA), 1988.
- New cars will now have 4 years of third-party insurance coverage, while two-wheelers will have 6 years of coverage.

Indian astrophysicist Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru (Karnataka), was honoured with the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Vikram Sarabhai Medal 2026 for her exceptional contribution to space research in developing countries.
- With this, she became the 4th Indian, the first Indian woman scientist, and only the 3rd woman globally to receive the honour.
- The medal was officially presented during the ongoing 46th COSPAR Scientific Assembly which is being held at Florence, Italy.

Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPP&P), approved key foreign postings of senior bureaucrats through the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) to various international organisations, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB) and World Trade Organization (WTO).

IMF Adviser: Rahul Jain has been appointed as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director (India), IMF for 3 years.
- He is a 2005-batch Indian Administrative officer (IAS) officer of Madhya Pradesh (MP) cadre and currently serving as the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA).
Air India Board Appoints Tewolde Gebremariam as CEO & MD
Air India, an Indian airline, appointed Tewolde Gebremariam, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ethiopian Airlines Group, as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD).
- He succeeded Campbell Wilson, who stepped down from the role in April 2026.

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved a one-year extension in the service of T. V. Somanathan, Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Cabinet Secretary of India, whose current tenure was scheduled to end on 30th August 2026.
- He assumed charge as the 33rd Cabinet Secretary of India on 30 August 2024, succeeding Rajiv Gauba.
Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan Passed Away at 87
Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan, former Chief Justice(CJ) of the Madras High Court(HC) and Andhra Pradesh (AP) HC, passed away at the age of 87.
- He was born on 11 November 1938 near Chandigarh.
National Javelin Day 2026 – August 7
