Introduction
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) conducts the Grade A (Assistant Manager) examination to recruit officers across various streams, including General, Finance & Accounts, Information Technology, Research (Economics), Research (Statistics), Actuary, Legal, and Official Language (Rajbhasha).
PFRDA is the statutory regulator responsible for promoting, developing, and regulating India’s pension sector. As a Grade A Officer, candidates are involved in pension regulation, policy formulation, market supervision, compliance, financial analysis, research, and implementation of pension-related initiatives, including the National Pension System (NPS). The position offers an excellent career in India’s financial regulatory sector.
Exam Pattern
The PFRDA Grade A recruitment process consists of Phase I (Preliminary Examination), Phase II (Main Examination), and Interview.
Phase I – Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination is conducted online and consists of two objective papers.
Paper I tests candidates on:
- English Language
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Reasoning Ability
- General Awareness (including Financial Sector Awareness)
Paper II is stream-specific.
For the General Stream, questions are asked from:
- Commerce
- Accountancy
- Management
- Finance
- Costing
- Companies Act

For specialist streams, Paper II consists of questions related to the respective discipline.
Each paper carries 100 marks, and negative marking of one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to the question applies for every incorrect answer.
Phase II – Main Examination
The Main Examination consists of two papers.
Paper I is an English Descriptive paper designed to assess writing and communication skills through Essay Writing, Precis Writing, Reading Comprehension, and Business or Official Correspondence.
Paper II is stream-specific and evaluates candidates’ in-depth professional knowledge related to their chosen discipline.
Interview
Candidates shortlisted after the Main Examination are invited for the Personal Interview. The interview evaluates communication skills, subject knowledge, analytical ability, personality, and overall suitability for the role.
The final merit list is prepared based on candidates’ performance in Phase II and the Interview.
