Introduction
These institutions manage commercial risk, health, auto, marine, and property insurance. An Administrative Officer (AO Scale-I) handles policy verification, corporate risk assessments, and claims settlements at a branch or divisional level.
Exam Pattern
While NIACL and OICL strictly use a 3-tier structure, UIIC frequently runs a single-tier online exam to speed up recruitment.
Standard Pattern (NIACL & OICL Generalists):
- Phase 1: Prelims (60 Mins | 100 Qs | 100 Marks)
- English (30 Qs), Reasoning (35 Qs), Quant (35 Qs). Note: Unlike LIC, English marks are counted toward your Prelims rank here.
- Phase 2: Mains (2.5 Hours | 200 Objective Marks + 30 Descriptive Marks)
- Objective: Reasoning (50), English (50), General Awareness (50), Quant (50).
- Descriptive: Essay (20 Marks) & Letter Writing (10 Marks) via digital typing.
UIIC AO Variant Pattern:
A single exam with 200 Questions (250 Marks) covering Reasoning, Quant, English, General Awareness, and Computer Literacy, immediately followed by the descriptive test.
Online Examination
- Negative Marking: Strict 1/4th (0.25) mark deduction for every incorrect answer.
- Sectional & Aggregate Cut-offs: You must pass individual sections and clear a total combined cut-off score to qualify.
Selection Process
Prelims Filter: Cleared candidates move forward at a 1:15 ratio per vacancy.
Mains Evaluation: Objective answers are checked first. Descriptive sheets are evaluated only if you pass the objective cut-offs.
Interview Phase: Accounts for 20% of the final merit weightage.
Final Ranking: Generated using an 80:20 weighted ratio of your Mains Exam score and Interview score.
Syllabus
General Awareness: Heavy focus on statutory national financial bodies (RBI, SEBI, IRDAI), government social security programs, and global climate or corporate updates.
Reasoning: High-level analytical reasoning, complex seating grids, and machine coding.
Generalist Insurance Knowledge: Indemnity rules, subrogation, proximate cause, and differences between life and property coverage.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: 21 to 30 years.
Education: Graduate or Postgraduate degree in any field. For NIACL, candidates generally need a minimum of 60% marks in graduation (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). UIIC and OICL usually require a simple pass degree.
