Exam Pattern
LIC AAO uses a three-tier system. The English section in the Preliminary exam is strictly qualifying—its marks are not counted for shortlisting candidates for the Mains.
- Phase 1: Prelims (60 Mins | 100 Qs | 70 Marks)
- Reasoning: 35 Qs (35 Marks, 20 Mins)
- Quantitative Aptitude: 35 Qs (35 Marks, 20 Mins)
- English Language: 30 Qs (30 Marks, 20 Mins) — Qualifying only (Cut-off is usually 10 marks for General)
- Phase 2: Mains (2 Hours 30 Mins | Objective + Descriptive)
- Reasoning Ability: 30 Qs (90 Marks, 40 Mins)
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs: 30 Qs (60 Marks, 20 Mins)
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: 30 Qs (90 Marks, 40 Mins)
- Insurance & Financial Market Awareness: 30 Qs (60 Marks, 20 Mins)
Descriptive Test: Letter & Essay writing (2 Qs, 25 Marks, 30 Mins) — Qualifying only
Online Examination
- Negative Marking: Uniquely, LIC AAO objective exams do not have negative marking.
- Sectional Timers: Every subject has an individual countdown timer; you cannot switch sections freely.
- Sectional Cut-offs: LIC specifies the exact minimum marks required to pass each section in advance.
Selection Process
Phase 1 (Prelims): Marks are discarded after filtering.
Phase 2 (Mains): Only the 300 marks from the Objective section determine your interview call.
Phase 3 (Interview): Conducted for 60 marks. You must score a minimum of 27 marks (45%) to pass.
Final Merit: Calculated using Mains Objective (300) + Interview (60) = 360 Marks.
Pre-Employment Medical Exam: Final clearance step.
Syllabus
Data Analysis: Strong focus on Bar, Pie, Line, and Caselet Graphs (more advanced than standard Quant).
Insurance Awareness: History of Life Insurance, LIC plans, ULIPs, Annuities, and Rider benefits.
General Awareness: 6 months of daily national news, banking terms, and union budget allocations.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: 21 to 30 years.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Indian university. No minimum percentage required.
